About
Welcome to Nigel Coton Art
Nigel is a UK-based contemporary artist who uses an exciting and diverse range of visual processes to create his art. He observes the world around us – recording momentary occurrences and human interactions, exploring the sounds, shapes and forms of man-made and natural objects, as well as investigating complex scientific theories and principles. He views his art as an opportunity to learn and understand new things: to challenge his working process to create work that can be unexpected and often thought provoking.
Nigel is deeply influenced by the sights and sounds of his childhood experiences and his art can take multiple forms to satisfy his inquisitive mind. Nigel grew up in Bridgwater, Somerset, England, where the yearly, historic Bridgwater Carnival night time carnival takes place in November. Each year he stood with his family on a cold winter's night mesmerised by the colourful, energetic and vibrant parade of brightly lit bulbs and movement of the tractor driven carnival floats.
This mechanical energy, intermingling with the constantly changing music, bright lights, and the movement of the colourful characters and costumes indelibly left a mark on his mind and these experiences have subsequently manifested themselves in his diverse approach to creating work.
Nigel sees the openness of visual approach as an opportunity to engage the viewer into the conceptual meaning without holding any pre-conceived ideas.
On this website, you find a range of his art, and opportunities to own original artwork and beautiful, limited edition giclée prints. To see Nigel's latest projects and sketchbooks, please visit instagram @nigelcoton
